Right Whale Exhibit and Presentation
Description
Bert Emerson: Right Whale Extinction runs from Jan. 22 to Feb. 18, 2026. The exhibition features a life-sized, interactive sculptural installation addressing the critical endangerment of the North Atlantic right whale, with fewer than 370 remaining and potential functional extinction by 2035. Emerson uses technology to symbolically protect the whale, highlighting human-caused environmental destruction, threats from fishing gear and vessel strikes, and the broader vulnerability of global ecosystems.
An interdisciplinary artist, graphic designer and associate professor at Salve, Emerson creates ecological art using interactive digital media. The work was developed during his 2025 sabbatical and reflects Salve’s commitment to environmental stewardship. His background includes teaching, student activism projects, and professional experience in interactive digital media and early touchscreen technology, with degrees from RISD and Goddard College.
