Mindful Moments with Sound and Music
Description
This class serves as an introduction to streams of Mindfulness practices, as they connect with Body-Mind practices and the Expressive Arts, with a special attention in this session, on utilizing sound and music in mindful ways. Through discussion and experiential exercises, the class will introduce how sound and music practices can be utilized to support mindfulness practice, help release tensions, and calm the nervous system. The in-class experiences will draw upon various sound-based modalities, including: deep listening, vocal toning, breathing practices, and recreational rhythm play. In this practical session, you’ll also discuss ways to integrate these mindfulness-based practices into your everyday life, in a revitalizing and enjoyable way. No experience necessary, just bring yourself.
Instructor Biography
Christopher Carbone, a longtime mindfulness educator, is known for bringing a positive and gentle spirit into his work with people of all ages in the fields of gentle yoga, mindfulness and creative arts practices in our local communities. At Salve Regina University for more than 20 years, Christopher serves as program coordinator and faculty member in the graduate program of the Department of Counselor Education and Expressive Arts, which is dedicated to training counselors, educators, social workers, health-care practitioners and other helping professionals in using the arts and holistic practices for personal growth and well-being.
