American Architectural History Seen Through the Lens of Newport Buildings

Description

Newport is a treasure trove of architecture, starting from the early days of the settlement of North America through the present. The community is privileged in that some of the foremost architects in America worked in this area and did some of their most noteworthy projects here. Many of these buildings have been preserved to the present day. There are few places in America where the breadth and importance of architectural fabric can be studied in such a tight geographic area.

This class will help reveal and examine the broader history of American architecture using examples of different styles of work that exist within the Newport community. This class was offered in Spring 2018.
