Baking a Successful Economy

Is there a recipe for creating a successful economy? If so, what are the ingredients? Do we have any idea what they are, or in what amounts they are needed? Why has Singapore been so successful and Argentina has not? China has had one of the highest economic growth rates ever; should other countries emulate them?

In this seminar, we will explore these questions, referring to the economic research that has been done on why some economies generate good outcomes while others do not.

Dennis Sheehan, Ph.D., is professor emeritus of finance at the Penn State University Smeal College of Business. He previously taught in the business schools at Purdue University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Rochester. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Georgetown University and received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley. Dennis is happily retired in his hometown of Newport.
